Riding on the coat tails of HOUSE!

Lately we've probably all been seeing more commercials for Edie Falko's new drama, Nurse Jackie and Jada Smith's HawthoRNe.

Nurse Jackie Peyton is far from ordinary. As an ER nurse, she navigates the rough waters of a crumbling healthcare system, doing everything she can to provide her patients with the best care possible. Whether she’s lighting into a smug doctor for failing to heed her advice, or stealing a fat money clip from a man who stabbed a prostitute and giving it to a pregnant widow, or forging the organ donor card of a man who just died, Jackie Peyton is compelled to make sense of the chaos and to level the playing field whenever she can. Right or wrong, it’s Jackie’s brand of justice all made that more manageable by a daily diet of prescription pain medication.

ummmm wait what?...so she's a nurse who "over steps her boundaries" as an RN and tells doctors what to do and how to do their job all the while on scripts? Does she walk with a limp and carry and awesome cane???

Pinkett Smith plays Christina Hawthorne, a compassionate and headstrong Chief Nursing Officer heading up a group of dedicated nurses at Richmond Trinity Hospital who spend long days and nights on the hospital’s front lines. Hawthorne is the kind of nurse you want on your side when you or someone you love is in the hospital. She is the kind of nurse who fights for her patients and doesn’t let them slip through the cracks. When necessary, she takes on doctors and administrators who are overworked, distracted or just unable to see the human being behind the hospital chart.

ok...Now to be honest Nurse Jackie looks fab. Falco always rises to the occasion. Hawthorne is probs gonna get cancelled after 2 seasons because its obviously a vehicle in which we have already seen Jada: as a tough as nails, pursed lipped "strong black woman" who yells slowly to everyone when she's trying to make a point. Honestly the womans only good role was in Scream 2 when she got stabbed in the first 4 minutes.

But why are we being bombarded with nurse shows that are eerily like House? Its obvious Nurse Jackie is ripping off the whole "medicated medicating the ill and its all working out for the best" thing.

not an original idea left in the fruit bowl. How about a tv show about a mail man. I know they must see interesting things. maybe the mail man is on vicodin all day..and puts fedex and UPS in their place...ohh shiiiit!

Well, after having watched the first season of Nurse Jackie (haven't seen the Jada Smith one), I can say that it is a faaaar far cry from House.

House is a highly predictable formulaic drama meant for the masses. The titular character's hydrocodone (Vicodin) addiction is blatantly ridiculous. First, Vicodin is a WEAK opioid. Second, they treat it with zero accuracy about real addiction. (Don't get me started on that episode about him taking methadone...the inaccuracies make me want to yell).

The point is, Nurse Jackie is a far more thoughtful show. Far less cheesy soap-opera, far less predictability, and far more realism. Plus, I love Edie Falco in this role. She is fantastic.

I know right. I was saying wthe sayong when I saw these 2 new shows. I don't know if you've seen it yet, but there's this other show Mercy and it has a similar plot. I haven't seen it myself, but I saw the tagline which was, "Some nurses give shots. She calls them", or something like that.
